It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the Recovery Strategy for greater Christchurch – Mahere Haumanutanga o Waitaha developed under the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011 is now available to view on the CERA website http://cera.govt.nz/recovery-strategy.

The Recovery Strategy represents a major milestone for the recovery of greater Christchurch.  It provides clear direction and coordination for recovery work and has been informed by hundreds of ideas and feedback, planning and discussions over nine months.

CERA has worked with government agencies, Te Rünanga o Ngāi Tahu, the Christchurch City Council, Selwyn and Waimakariri District Councils and Environment Canterbury to consider the input and develop the strategy. The relationships that have been developed and strengthened through this process are important and will be critical to the successful recovery of greater Christchurch.

Sections three to eight are the statutory sections of the Recovery Strategy. These sections will now be read alongside, and form part of, key planning instruments for greater Christchurch such as those developed under the Resource Management Act and the Local Government Act. The Strategy includes a definition of recovery, vision, goals, priorities and phases for recovery, expectations for government-led recovery programmes and a commitment to monitoring and reporting. The other sections of the document provide context and further information about how the strategy will be implemented.

More information about the work programmes is provided on the CERA website which will continue to be updated as progress continues. I urge you to visit the website, read the Strategy, talk to your friends and neighbours and get involved.

Warm regards, Diane Turner
