As construction vamps up in Christchurch many experts are calling for timber instead of steel to be used for commercial buildings.

Many of those experts are currently in Auckland discussing the benefits at the world timber engineering conference.

One of those is civil engineer Ario Ceccotti, who spoke to Firstline this morning.

He says timber can be used to build medium-rise commercial buildings, and it would prove to be a resistant material “without no doubt”.
