TRIAL RUN: The new Red Bus bus passes through the Colombo St checkpoint during a trial run of their new tour today.

The Red Bus tours will feature a new ''stream-lined'' bus, with two large video screens that will display images of pre-quake Christchurch.Bus tours through the Christchurch central city red zone will begin on Tuesday, with the company taking a trial run today.

The tours will be accompanied by a broad commentary from a Canterbury Museum guide.

Red Bus chief executive Paul McNoe said the tours were a way to ''tell a story''.

''It's saying yes this event's happened but here's why.

''It's talking about where the city's going and about the recovery process,'' he said.

McNoe said these tours were aimed at tourists and visitors to Christchurch, rather than residents, like the bus tours late last year.

He said the new tours were for those who lacked the ''emotional connection'' with the city, but who were still interested in events.

The tours will run every day between 10am and 2pm. They will last about half an hour and cost $15.
