Update on Burwood Hospital Rebuild

Posted 26 May 2015 by Swiggs Featured Popular

The construction of purpose-designed facilities for older people requiring hospital level rehabilitation and care at Burwood Hospital has passed the half-way mark.

The first development is on schedule to open in the first quarter of 2016. By the time the hospital is fully commissioned, in addition to the existing services and facilities, there will be:

·         A new front of house area, including a new main entrance, café, reception and retail,

·         A new back of house area comprising a new hospital kitchen, clean and dirty loading docks, cleaners’ store, supply and distribution area and the plant (the equipment needed to support and maintain the hospital such as the maintenance of air conditioning, heating, plumbing and lighting systems) to support these areas,

·         A new outpatient department able to manage around 80,000 outpatient visits a year.

Once the new ward blocks are open, inpatient bed numbers on the Burwood Hospital will be over 300.

On completion, we anticipate the number of staff working onsite will be between 1,500 and 2,000 per day.

There will also be 648 car parks available for people working or visiting the campus.
