Christchurch technology company Global Office is back in the central city for the first time since the February 2011 earthquake.
Now settled in the newly-refurbished art deco building at 279 Montreal St, the company is also celebrating its 20th birthday.
Global Office CEO Chris Tacon says that while the quakes disrupted the company in many ways, they also contributed to it returning to the CBD “bigger, better and stronger than before”.
“When the ground shook, it also shook up local businesses, who started looking at new ways of working. They weren’t so dependent on physical offices and many come to understand that their value lay in what was happening outside their four walls – how long deliveries were taking, how they were communicating with their clients, and how efficient they were in general.”
“They came to us looking for new technology that could help them see what was going on in their businesses in real-time and to make them more competitive,” Chris says.
Global Office develops software for a wide range of clients in New Zealand and overseas including the New Zealand College of Midwives, MOVE Logistics, Accessman and GVI Logistics.
Chris says it’s fantastic to be celebrating Global Office’s 20th birthday as the team of nine moves back into the central city. “The timing couldn’t have been better. And being creative types, we think the arts precinct is the perfect new home for us.”

Tonight, Peter Townsend from the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce will officially open the new office.
