Destination Kaikōura Says Don’t Write-off Kaikōura as a Holiday option these Summer Holidays
Date Tuesday November 22, 2016
Holiday-makers and tourists have been urged to not write-off Kaikōura as a destination to visit during the coming summer holidays.
Destination Kaikōura General Manager Glenn Orsmby said while just a few businesses and tour operators were open for business at present, he was confident most would be open for customers in the coming weeks and months.
“We hope to have the inland road from Christchurch open by next week, which will allow the resumption of road travel between Christchurch and Kaikōura adding just an hour to the journey.
“We already have some businesses and tours operating, and we expect this number to continue to increase in the days and weeks ahead, along with repairs to key infrastructure.”
Mr Ormsby said the people of the region have been overwhelmed by the support and encouragement from across the country and the world.
“We are a resilient town and we have been encouraged by the offers of help and words of support. It has also been wonderful to see the community pull together to help each other out, and to support those who have been hardest hit and our visitors.”
He has a message also for those who have asked what they can do to help.
“I would like to urge them to lock Kaikōura in as a destination to come and visit in the months ahead when we are back and open for business - support us with your custom, and allow us to give back through the world-famous hospitality and attractions we are renowned for.
“I would also like to encourage those who have existing bookings to give us some time before cancelling as we may be still able to provide the experience you have booked, by the time it falls due.”
Mr Ormsby said while the region has taken a hit, good progress is being made to get back on its feet.
