How our work could impact you

Traffic Impact

Stage 1:

  • A road closure will be in place for this part of the work along Gayhurst Road and Strathfield Avenue; however resident vehicle access will be maintained.
  • Traffic along Gayhurst Road driving north towards Burwood Park will not be able to turn right into Birchfield Avenue. Please take note that work along Birchfield Avenue is still in progress and therefore still closed to other traffic.

Private property access

  • We may need to enter private properties in the affected work area to connect residents' wastewater laterals from their property boundary to the new gravity wastewater pipeline.
  • An access and restoration agreement has been distributed to affected residents that property owners must complete and sign. Without the affected owners consent we will be unable to carry out any work on your property to connect your wastewater line to the Council owned wastewater line. Please return the completed form to us by Friday 4th May 2012. You can call us on free phone 0508 718 719 when the form is complete and we will arrange to collect it from you. Or you can post or email the form to us.

General impacts of the work

  • De-watering spikes will be installed into the ground which will pump and discharge the ground water into the stormwater system. This may cause a slight orange colouration on the road. This is due to the common minerals found in groundwater and is not a health or environmental concern.
  • This work will take place from 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday; it may include some Saturday work if necessary and is expected to be completed by the end of June 2012.
  • The work will not impact current power, telecommunications, sewer, water or gas services.
  • The work may result in noise, vibration and dust if there are dry weather conditions. All works are subject to favourable weather and on-site conditions.
  • During the period of construction, we ask that you observe special cordons around construction areas for you and your family’s safety.

Rubbish collection

While this portion of Gayhurst Road and Strathfield Avenue is closed, we would like to assist you with the collection of your Christchurch City Council rubbish and recycling bins. If you could please put the bins out before 5:00pm every Tuesday, we will take them to the collection point outside the road closure and then return them to your property the next day. Please ensure your bins have your house number on them so we know which properties to return them to.
