We are installing a new wastewater trunk line along Wigram Road between Hayton Road and Hammersmith Drive. We will start on Monday 9 July for approximately three months.

Note: start date for this project is now Monday 23 July 2012.

Please also refer to the works notice for Matipo Street, Wrights Road, Birmingham Drive, Wigram Road [1]

This trunk line is one section of the larger wastewater scheme to service developments in western Christchurch. As detailed in the newsletter about the wider wastewater project, delivered 24 April, to complete the trunk line Fulton Hogan will be installing a new gravity wastewater main along Wigram Road, Birmingham Drive, Wrights Road and Matipo Street. As well as a pressure wastewater main under the Christchurch Southern Motorway and Curletts Road.Work on the larger trunk line began in May 2012 and is expected to be completed in April 2013.

Where we are working

Stay safe

For the safety of our workers and other road users please follow the onsite traffic management and  adhere to the 30km/h speed limit. If you wish to speak to someone on site please go to the person  furthest away from any moving machinery.

Traffic impact

  • There will be two temporary traffic lanes around our work site on Wigram Road.
  • As part of this work we need to make a connection to the existing manhole opposite 98 Wigram Road. While we complete this section there will be a manual stop/go system in place. It is likely that this will only be needed for one day.
  • We also need to install a new manhole near the intersection of Wigram Road and Hayton Road. While we complete this section there will also be a three-way stop/go system in place for one day.

How our work could impact you

  • Please be aware that parking on Wigram Road will be more limited while we carryout the wastewater installation. There will be no on-street parking available immediately adjacent to the worksite, signage will indicate where parking will not be permitted.
  • Please contact Fulton Hogan on 0800 277 34 34 if you have any specific access requirements that we need to consider for your business.
  • Works will take place between 7.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday.
  • There will be increased noise, dust and vibration levels associated with this work. The use of trucks, diggers, compactors, pumps and stock piles of shingle will be necessary.
  • During construction we will be open trenching. Please observe the special cordons and fences around the construction area.
  • Deep trenching involves dewatering and the use of trench shields. A dewatering pump will be running 24 hours a day in order to lower the water level in the trench.
  • A fenced off, safe, walkway will be provided for pedestrians.
  • Works are not expected to impact on current power, telecommunication, wastewater, or water services.
  • All works are subject to favourable weather and on-site construction conditions.
