Halberg Street and Lovelock Street - Dallington - Wastewater

Works Begin 13 Aug 2012 Works End
Works Status Active
We will be repairing the wastewater system along Halberg Street and Lovelock Street, commencing 13 August 2012, and continuing for approximately 12 weeks.

Where we are working

What we are doing

  • We will be digging a trench along Halberg Street and Lovelock Street. The trench will be dug where the current wastewater main pipe is located, allowing access to the pipe. An under-ground lift pump station will also be installed in Lovelock Street.
  • As we replace each section of main pipe we will also be replacing the public section of the lateral. Laterals are the pipes which take wastewater from the house to the wastewater main in the street. The public section of the lateral is the section of pipe between the wastewater main and the property boundary as shown on the right.
  • Connection of a public lateral to the private lateral is normally at the property boundary. If this connection is located within the property boundary, then the owner’s permission to enter and work on the property will be sought prior to work beginning. No work will be carried out on private laterals.

How our work could impact you

General Impacts:

There will be four stages of work between Halberg Street and Lovelock Street.

  • For Stages One and Two we will have two crews working on Halberg Street. Each team will start at the manhole located at 95 Halberg Street.
  • Stage One will head north towards the intersection of McBratneys Road. Stage One will take approximately two months
  • Stage Two will head south towards the manhole located outside 68 Halberg street. Stage Two will take approximately six weeks.
  • Stage One and Two of Halberg Street will be done at the same time.
  • Stage Three will be located in Lovelock Street, and will involve installing a lift pump station in the middle of the cul-de-sac head. This pump station will be installed underground, and when finished will only be visible by a manhole cover. This stage will take approximately 6 weeks and will be done at the same time as the work on Halberg Street.
  • Stage Four will involve joining the Halberg Street network to the Lovelock Street network through the walkway between 86 and 84 Halberg Street through to Lovelock Crescent between 17 and 16a. A separate work notice will follow for this work.
  • Stage Four will also include replacing the wastewater pipe and laterals in Lovelock Street from the lift pump station to Landy Street. This stage will take approximately 4 weeks.
  • These project works are expected to be completed by 9 November 2012.

Traffic Impacts:

  • Sections of the footpath will need to be closed while work is carried out. Detours will be put in place. Please follow the signs.
  • Halberg Street will be temporarily reduced to one lane. A way one system will be in place heading south (towards Snell Place).
  • Please make sure that when you leave your property you are travelling in the correct direction.
  • Lovelock Street will be temporarily closed during the construction works. See below for information on driveway access.

Access to your driveway:

Halberg Street:

  • Due to the works, driveway access will be restricted at times. We will endeavor to maintain access to all properties, where possible. This will be dependant on construction site conditions.
  • Residents will be notified prior to work in their section of the road if we are unable to maintain driveway access. Please contact us if you have any specific access requirements that we need to consider e.g. Nurse Maude, Meal on Wheels or other planned works on your property.

Lovelock Street:

  • Due to the installation of the lift pump station we will be unable to maintain driveway access as we will need to work in a large area of the road. We recommend street parking on lovelock street (southern end) during this time .
  • While work is being done to replace the wastewater and lateral pipes vehicle access cannot be maintained. We will notify residents closer to this work with dates as to when Lovelock Street will be closed. We will return access to driveways as soon as possible.

Access to your Property for work:

  • We may need to enter private properties in the construction area to check the connection of the private lateral to the public lateral if the connection is located on private property. An access and restoration agreement is enclosed with this notice for affected residents. Without property owners consent we will be unable to carry out any work on your property to connect your wastewater line to the Council owned wastewater pipeline. Please complete and return this form to us by 20 August 2012. You can call us on free phone 0508 718 719 when the form is complete and we can arrange for it to be collected from you if required.

General Information:

  • This work will take place during the hours of 7:00 am-5.30 pm, Monday to Friday and it may be necessary for some weekend work to take place to complete this essential work.
  • The work will result in some noise and dust if there are dry weather conditions. The work will not impact on current power, wastewater or gas services, however we may need to request that residents restrict their wastewater use for a short period while we are connecting their lateral to the wastewater main.
  • Weekly rubbish removal will continue as normal. Residents within the section of Halberg Street being worked on at that time will need to have their bins out the night before so our contractors can move them to an alternative collection point.
  • Please note: that there are still works on Gayhurst Road and McBratneys Road, and there are one way systems in place.
  • All works are subject to favorable weather and on-site conditions.
  • During the period of construction we ask that you observe special cordons around construction areas for you and your family’s safety.
