  • Investigation works were carried out in January 2012. This part of the work was suspended due to further earth movement after the December 2011 earthquake.
  • Work to replace the wastewater sub main will commence in stages along Birchfield Avenue starting at 54 Birchfield Avenue on 8 March 2012.
  • Birchfield Avenue will remain closed to through traffic, however resident only access will still be provided.
  • Resident vehicle access in the directly affected work area will be restricted between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday; it may include some Saturday work if necessary. If your access will be disrupted we will put a vehicle access restriction form in your letterbox the night prior. The notification will also suggest an appropriate location to park your vehicle.
  • Please contact us if you have any specific access requirements that we need to consider e.g. Nurse Maude, Meals on Wheels or other planned works on your property.
  • De-watering spikes will be installed into the ground which will pump and discharge the ground water into the stormwater system. This may cause a slight orange colouration on the road; this is due to the common minerals found in groundwater and is not a health or environmental concern.
  • Due to the nature of the work, pedestrian footpath access may be difficult at times. Safe footpath alternatives will be maintained during the work.
  • We may need to enter private properties in the affected work area to install and connect resident's laterals from their property boundary to the new wastewater sub main pipeline.
  • An access and restoration agreement has been distributed to affected residents that property owners must complete and sign. Without the affected owners consent we will be unable to carry out any work on your property to connect your wastewater line to the Council owned wastewater line. Please return the completed form to us by Monday 12 March 2012. You can call us on free phone 0508 718 719 when the form is complete and we will arrange for it to be collected from you.
  • This work will take place from 7:00am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday; it may include some Saturday work if necessary and is expected to be completed by Thursday 26 April 2012.
  • The work will not impact current power, sewer, water or gas services.
  • The work may result in noise, vibration and dust if there are dry weather conditions. All works are subject to favorable weather and on-site conditions.
  • We intend to remove the sheet piles on Birchfield Avenue once the work is completed on the 26 April 2012. The removal of the sheet piles will cause some vibrations and noise, however it should not be as intensive as it was during installation.
  • During the period of construction, we ask that you observe special cordons around construction areas for you and your family's safety.
  • For any further information about this work, please contact the MacDow Fletcher Infrastructure Rebuild Team between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday on free phone 0508 718 719. Any emergency calls made outside these hours will be diverted to a Site Engineer.
