Sept 4 Earthquake:
Lost power for 48 hrs and had limited sewage for a couple of months and we had to boil our water for 5-6 weeks.. Some properties had lots of liquefaction and others like ourselves had hardly anything. The Fire brigade helped the community tiding up there sections with liquefaction and checking on peoples chimneys where required, they also drove around the streets and announced if there were any meetings or updated the community of any happenings. Houses did receive damage, some more than others.
Two months after the quake, north of Chch Brooklands town with Brooklands Lagoon east, Styx River curving north west, then north east & Waimakariri River mouth further north east, is quiet with PortaLoos on the streets & in many gardens, road cracks & road crunches (like giant wrinkled paper) potholes & grey liquefaction sand around still. Sewage reconnections dubious.
Power was lost for a few hours but still had sewage and water, liquefaction wasn't a problem and as for the roads they didn't receive any more damage as to what they already were in from September .
Power was lost for an hour but water and sewage was fine and no liquefaction.
There has been a handful of people leave the community after the September Earthquake, the rest of the Community love it out here and don't want to leave, our homes are liveable,we are anxiously waiting, praying and hoping that we will go green or that the council can do whatever it takes to keep Brooklands
