Tuesday, 4 October 2016 3:11 p.m. by Swiggs

A question that has come up multiple times in the campaign has been does the government pay rates on land in the central city that it has purchased under the blueprint. The question came up again when i made a statement about the terrible state of Wilsons Carparks in the central city. The example below isnt crown owned land but there are many Wilsons Parks on crown owned land.

The press today reported for Canterbury homeowners. This is totally unacceptable. As a trustee of the Canterbury Insurance Assistance Service we could see two years ago that cash settlement and more importantly what homeowners needed to know after they got the cash was going to be vitally important.

Five years on from the earthquakes Christchurch is emerging as a new city and with that we have a fantastic opportunity to be a destination that people from all over the world want to visit, work, invest or live. While this opportunity is great we also must look after the best asset the city has, the people already living here.

Changes to the constitution to Otakaro Ltd

Changes to the constitution to Otakaro Ltd

Monday, 30 May 2016 10:05 a.m. by Swiggs Popular

Of concern in the past week is that Ministers English and Brownlee have just changed the purpose of Otakaro Limited which has been developed post CERA to do the governments work. The change in the purpose effectively gives Otakaro Limited the power to act against the Regenerate Christchurch regeneration plans if the financial return to the government isn't good enough.

Time To Ask The Hard Questions About The Central City Rebuild

Tuesday, 12 May 2015 3:54 p.m. by Swiggs Featured Popular

There is a saying that when ministers or the government release information late on a Friday it is usually because they want it swept under the rug without too many questions. This happens a lot with this government to do with this recovery and last Friday it happened again. This time we must take notice as it is a very serious situation. We must start asking some hard questions of CERA and the government.

Victoria Square Redevelopment - Is it Legal?

Thursday, 12 March 2015 10:47 a.m. by Swiggs Popular

Victoria Square has been in the spotlight recently due to the plans made by the CCDU to redevelop it. CERA have now backtracked a bit and called for public consultation . Victoria Square is a historically important area to the city with it previously called Market Square. It is an area that was not largely damaged by the earthquakes and serves as a nice green space in the city. The square is protected under the Christchurch City (Reserves) Empowering Act 1971.

There is a lot of talk around Christchurch about the pace of the rebuild. The popular commentators in the media say that it is to slow. There could be some truth to this and there does needs to be a full and frank discussion about it. From the discussions I have had with investors over the previous months there is a definate slide in optimism especially for the smaller players who feelling the inflation pinch.
